Connie and Madeleine Carroll in I Was a Spy. Do you think this was a well played/directed love scene?

Well I am no film critic, I will leave that to the more skilled. But I as a viewer was drawn in by this scene and Conrad's kind dominance over his lover. I loved the scene and continue to be enthralled by the man. Teach on Monica, teach on.

In my opinion, it isn't necessary to be a film critic to analyze a scene. I will tell you my opinion, if you don't mind. The moment where he embraces her and kisses her for the first time reminds me of an early film of Clark Gable and Joan Crawford, where he is taking her in his arms, and he is also taking off her fur. It was a very sexy moment, but I am afraid Connie and Madeleine couldn't do the same. I felt it was a little bit forced/unnatural that strong embrace. Even Madeleine's rejection should have been played differently. I felt as if I were seeing not a spy film, but a theatrical play. But the rest of the scene was well played, except for the moment where she is trying to escape and she is pleading him to let her go. Again - are we in a spy, decent movie, or in a drama on stage? Madeleine Carroll is a good actress (I saw her in 39 Steps and The Prisoner of Zenda), but she is sometimes overacting. Connie simply knows when to be rigid and ferm, and when to overact and be sympathetic. That's the true talent...

The most relevant scene from I Was a Spy - magnificent performances from both Connie and Madeleine Carroll
