Whenever I watched any part of "A Woman' Face" on YouTube I always pictured watching that film with my two nieces. I suppose it comes out of childhood memories of when I was little and used to watch old movies with my grandfather and my uncles down at my maternal grandmother's house back in the 70's. Well, today during Connie Day I got that chance.
My sister brought my nieces over at about 4:30pm and they all ended up staying long enough for "A Woman's Face" to begin showing on TCM. Now we didn't see the whole thing since the girls were more into playing on Fantage, their favorite website but right around the time Anna came to the Counsel's house to be Governess to Larz Eric, we all came down and sat on the sofa.
We were all silent for awhile and then the girls really started getting into the movie. I know they did because they started asking questions about what was going on in the film.
"Aunt Mary Ellen, how come the little boy snuck out of his room onto the roof? That's dangerous!"
"How come they want to kill the little boy?"
"How are they going to know the bad man gets the money if the little boy dies?"
"How come that lady is dressed up in such a funny costume?"
"How come that lady's in court? What did she do?"
We got to the part where Anna and Larz Eric are riding over the falls in the basket, my niece Sarah buried her head into my shoulder she was so scared Larz Eric was going to fall.
I am so glad I got this opportunity because I know this is going to provide memories for them for a lifetime. They will remember scenes from this movie all their lives. They may not remember what movie it came from but they will always remember when they sat there with Aunt Mary Ellen and cheered on as the nice lady shot the bad man and saved Larz Eric.
